Puducherry: Noted Tamil writer and Sahitya Akademi Award winner Prabhanjan died here on Friday. He was 83. Prabhanjan was suffering from cancer. Born in Puducherry, Prabhanjan began his career as a Tamil teacher in Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu. His historical novel 'Vaanam Vasapadum' was awarded the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award in 1995.
DMK president M.K. Stalin in his condolence message said in the death of Prabhanjan, Tamil literary world has suffered a great loss. He said Prabhanjan was friendly towards the Dravidian movement. Former DMK President late M Karunanidhi was affectionate towards Prabhanjan. In his condolence message, PMK founder leader Dr S. Ramadoss said Prabhanjan stamped his mark in the Tamil literary world with his unique style. Prabhanjan made important contributions to the country and also formulated plans for Makkal TV, a Tamil satellite channel. Prabhanjan had close relation with Ramadoss and shared dais in hundreds of meetings. Ramadoss said they shared common views.
